The world is a pretty depressing place right now.
If you’ve spent a lot of time around me lately, you know I’m a bit of a pessimist.
The way we’re spending our days and nights is just downright depressing.
We spend a lot less time looking forward to things and a lot more time looking back at the past.
But even as I was writing this article, I’m not totally convinced that we’re actually doomed.
And I’m sure you’ve heard this from me before.
It’s a common refrain that I’ve heard time and time again.
It goes something like this: “We are not a species that will die of boredom.”
Or: “If we’re not bored, then we’re dying.”
I think that the sentiment is a little misguided.
I’m happy to say that I’m actually not sure what it is we’re really dying of.
I know it’s not boredom.
I do know it has nothing to do with the amount of time we spend sitting around, watching TV, and eating crappy food.
It has everything to do, I think, with our current state of technological development.
So let’s take a look at some of the reasons why.
It Doesn’t Really Matter What We Spend Our Time Doing If we’re being honest with ourselves, the world doesn’t really matter.
It all just happens in a way that makes sense to us, right?
We spend our time trying to get things done and having fun.
We’re not trying to live up to our potential, right.
But we can certainly feel that way about our lives.
And even if we’re only spending a few hours a day, we can feel the same way about ourselves, because the world’s going on and we’re just trying to do our best to get on with it.
If we spend too much time on stuff that doesn’t matter to us or that we feel we don’t need, we’re probably not doing it for the right reasons.
But if we spend enough time on things that matter to you, we might feel the need to spend time on them in the first place.
So if you spend enough hours on stuff you really want to do and don’t have time to spend on stuff for other reasons, then you’re probably doing it to be boring.
And if you’re a pessimists about things, this could make sense.
The more you spend on something, the more likely you are to feel bored and depressed.
And it doesn’t help that it feels like it doesnt matter what you’re doing.
If there are a bunch of things you really care about and they all fall apart, you’re likely going to feel like your life is really pointless and you’re going to be unhappy.
So we spend way too much of our time.
We just don’t seem to have the discipline to do anything else.
It Isn’t All About What We Get Up To If you spend too little time on what matters, you may not feel the desire to make a difference.
If a coworker gives you the finger or yells at you for being too busy, you might feel a little bad about yourself for being lazy.
But you may also feel that the other person is being disrespectful because they don’t want to spend as much time as you are on things you care about.
If the boss says something mean about you, you probably aren’t going to care because it isn’t really you doing the mean thing.
But that boss probably does mean something to you and you probably feel guilty for not doing anything about it.
So instead of feeling like you’re wasting your time, you spend more time doing what matters to you.
And when you stop wasting time on boring stuff, you feel more satisfied.
We Are Not Really Bored We are not truly bored, but our minds are so busy trying to make sense of the world that we forget that we are really bored.
And this is where technology plays a big role.
I think we can say with confidence that technology has a big part to play in this.
We can’t spend our entire lives watching TV.
We have to make time for some of it, of course.
But there’s also no denying that we do spend a significant amount of our waking hours on the Internet and in the news.
And we are constantly surrounded by people who want to talk to us about whatever they want.
But the most important aspect of our lives is our social relationships.
And technology has the power to change all of that.
Technology Can Make Things Really Good It’s not always about what you buy, or where you work, or what you do for a living.
We are all pretty aware of this, but it can be especially true of the young and the young-at-heart.
For example, if I bought a new iPhone every few months, I would be pretty bored every time.
The only way I could get anything done was by watching TV and spending time with my friends. But when
